Hi.

Welcome to my blog.

Day 13, a few days late

As Camino stages go, today was a short day. Our walk from Belorado to Villafranca Montes de Oca was less than nine miles, and we arrived at our destination shortly before noon. It was the kind of day where I looked at the Fitbit and said “Twenty-four thousand steps? What a pair of slackers we are!”

So you might be wondering what pilgrims eat. In a phrase, a lot. We had a hearty breakfast in Belorado, saving parts of it for lunch and a snack later. A few miles later, we stopped for second breakfast. I just had a slice of bread and some coffee; Rich had the amazing tortilla Espanola, which has eggs, potatoes and cheese. It’s the best way to start a day over here: lots of protein for healing and carbs for energy. The “Pilgrim’s Menu” typically includes an appetizer, main dish, dessert, bread, wine and water. Tonight’s appetizer for me featured the white asparagus grown here, followed by beef stew and tiramisu. Everything seems to come with the Spanish version of French fries.
